Healthcare

Working within the healthcare sector promised to be a fantastic challenge, and our team at MEP Services Group was ready to embrace it. The strict rules and regulations governing medical facilities is what made this job a challenge, but no job is too big for our experienced and passionate team. While strictly adhering to the requirements set in place to provide a clean, sterile environment. Our team successfully installed and updated their new HVAC, plumbing, and drainage systems. By the end of this project, this health clinic now has a space that is not only tailored to their specific needs, but is a luxurious, clean, and comfortable environment year-round.

Working at a health facility shares the same concepts of HVAC and plumbing as other sectors, except with special attention to certain areas. These HVAC systems need to work with the design of the facility so it is able to filter out pathogens and bacteria, and prevent it from spreading throughout the entire clinic. Our project management team was meticulous in their design for the new HVAC system, as special requirements are needed to keep every area of the clinic clean. Ensuring that the airflow is tailored to the clinic, laboratory, and pharmacy needs is paramount in the success of the overall system, resulting in the safety and wellbeing of all patients, workers, and visitors.

The new heating and cooling system that was installed was a Variant Refrigerant Flow (VRF) heat pump, to improve overall energy efficiency. This system divides the building into different zones and heating or cooling them as required, without burning any fossil fuels. This system works by extracting the heat from outside and transferring it inside, similarly to cool the space the system extracts heat from inside and transfers it outside. The upgrades for this project also included the installation of a hydronics system, which is powered by their energy efficient gas boiler. Hot water from this boiler is circulated throughout each room through pipes or radiant floor coils, which warms the floor and objects in a room rather than just the air.

This facility includes an on-site pressurized laboratory. This laboratory requires clean, filtered air provided by the newly installed Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) to be pumped into the completely sealed room at a higher rate then what is filtering out. This ERV was designed to pull in fresh, clean air and remove the stale, unclean air from inside. The pressure that this creates doesn’t allow for any unfiltered air to make its way into the lab. The result is clean, filtered air with no presence of pathogens, pollutants, or viruses.

This project also required fully installing a plumbing and drainage system that works effectively for the requirements of this facility. Access to safe and sterile water is essential to avoid any type of contamination that could hinder their services or their patients. Clean and safe water is of upmost importance and must be accessible from every corner of this facility.

Our team at MEP Services Group was delighted to be involved in creating a space that both patients and workers could be proud of. With the over-all goal of creating a functional, safe, and comfortable environment, we are proud to say that this project was a great success.
